OUR STORY

We began planning the launch of Involvd®, a social awareness clothing brand, back in late 2019. We felt compelled to find real and meaningful ways to reduce the tragic human toll of mental health, homelessness, and the environment. From months of pre-launch research, we identified many frontline aid-and-assistance organizations already combatting America's socio-economic and environmental ills. We discovered there were thousands of grassroots groups and individuals, similarly, moved by human suffering, also devoting time, energy, and resources toward alleviating it.

THE 'QUESTION' FOR US WAS OBVIOUS

How can we bring like-minded people together, start conversations, and encourage further research? The 'Answer' which quickly became integral to our strategy and vision unfolded clearly in three parts:

1

BECOME A CONDUIT

One of our primary goals is to connect concerned citizens with causes they care about and want to be involved with. To that end, we introduce and describe important social issues here on our site, and also provide links to US-based organizations that actively address those concerns.

2

STIMULATE DIALOGUE

Starting with our INVOLVD® line of high-quality tees, we want to generate awareness and conversations around a particular social issue through simple, thought-provoking messages printed on the garment. The idea relies on enigmatic phrases and statistics to arouse curiosity and invite questions, giving tee-shirt owners a chance to share their thoughts, feelings and passion for a cause or issue.

3

WALK THE TALK

Because we share our customers’ concerns for important social and environmental causes, we gladly donate a portion of every sale to frontline charities in the fight against homelessness, human trafficking, mental health, environmental concerns and other issues.

OUR MISSION & VISION

Mission

To establish a premium clothing brand that promotes awareness, empathy and individual involvement in solving some of America’s most distressing social issues, with an emphasis on mental health as many social issues stem from it.

Vision

We envision a world where people get passionately and personally involved in improving the health, happiness and well-being of all people, and protecting the environment.

MEET THE FOUNDERS

KELLI SMITHGALL

KELLI SMITHGALL

Co-Founder

As a young woman growing up in California, Kelli faced many of the same difficulties as others from lower-income backgrounds, hurdles she believes gave her a heart for others in need. “Coming up, I was a single mom with no college degree, raising four kids – including one who lives with mental illness – and very little chance of ever getting ahead,” says Kelli." "The things we faced on a daily basis were quite disheartening, as you can imagine.” Among Kelli’s toughest challenges were working a string of minimum-wage jobs to make ends meet and going without health insurance for more than 15 years. Medical and other bills routinely piled up, and at times, utilities even shut off the family’s gas and electricity. “We received more than our share of collection letters and eviction notices,” she recalls. For a season of life, Kelli also watched helplessly as substance abuse and homelessness swallowed up a younger brother, someone with whom she remains very close. “It was a hard road back for him,” she says. Thankfully, with the help and support of organizations like those INVOLVD® works with, Kelli’s brother has recovered and is now thriving. “Raising awareness about homelessness, mental health, and other important social issues is the first step toward easing the suffering and making things better,” says Kelli. “For us, that’s really what INVOLVD® is all about.”

TIM GARTH

TIM GARTH

Co-Founder

Tim is a first-generation immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in 1995 from Kingston-Upon-Hull, a gritty, blue-collar port city in East Yorkshire, England. Parts of his hometown suffered heavy damage during World War Two. Tim grew up in the post-war government housing that was built to accommodate the working classes. Though he graduated high school, due to a poorer education and financial pressures, there was no opportunity to attend college. “Life was definitely a struggle,” Tim recalls. “Even with both parents holding down multiple jobs, our family lacked many basic needs,” including utilities, and for a time, even indoor plumbing. “I remember having one pair of shoes in grade school,” he says, “With holes in the soles. During bad weather, I stuffed plastic bags in there to keep my feet warm and dry. Once the other kids saw that, the taunts and bullying followed, resulting in more than a few after-school fights.” These days, the fight Tim cares most deeply about is bringing people together and turning their energy and passion toward helping others in need.
