South OC’s Homeless Outreach
As someone who spent many years living in Rancho Santa Margarita, I'm happy to see that my former city, Laguna Hills, and Mission Viejo are working together to combat homelessness in South Orange County. These cities are starting a new outreach initiative this summer in light of Mercy House's community outreach exit.
Caseworkers have been brought in as part of this project to aid with housing, interact with our homeless friends and neighbors, and handle crises --Creating opportunities for our unhoused communities and preventing the area's homelessness from rising are the main objectives.
Although there are financial costs involved ($68,600 from RSM and Laguna Hills apiece, and $136,000 from Mission Viejo), aren't empathy and community outreach worth that much?
Friends and colleagues in South County OC, be on the lookout for these outreach workers -- the unsung heroes.
